Sponsored by CSSE National, the CSSE Barrie Chapter hosted a very successful NAOSH event on Wed May 4, 2016. It was well attended by our own Chapter members, members from other Provincial Chapters and Guests.
The first speaker was CSSE Safety Professional of the Year, Peter Sturm. As always, Peter gave an informative and engaging talk on current Minerva initiatives, the new CSA standard for Incident Investigation and Safety and Sustainability. His passionate speech on the history of the standards and grassroots of our Canadian Safety and how it impacts other countries makes it easy to understand why the CSSE chose Peter as the Safety Professional of the Year.
Janet Bewers, a Safety Professional from Workplace Safety and Prevention Services was our second speaker of the day. Janet’s easy going style encompassing correlations between Art and Safety was an interesting analogy. Encouraging audience participation and humour, the message of how to Create a Safety Culture in our workplaces was enlightening and informative. There were many tips on how to engage co-workers to adopt safe practices on the job and I know many of us will use these techniques to create a culture that is more easily understood by our colleagues.
In all the food was great, the speakers were fantastic, and the event was well organized. In short it was a SUCCESS!!!
